Gastropolis

Architectural Association, London

Introducing Gastropolis: a visionary response to the evolving culinary landscape, where the domestic kitchen slowly transitions from a necessity to a luxury commodity. Inspired by the efficiency principles of Taylorism, this communal culinary haven redefines domestic cooking spaces, drawing from influences such as Tulou Hakkas and the Narkomfin Building.

Its interconnected courtyards serve as hubs for collaborative cooking experiences, housing distinct programs: Ingredients, Prep, and Kitchen. Additionally, mobile stove units offer the flexibility to customize cooking spaces, further enhancing the communal dining experience.  In a world where time is increasingly precious and convenience is paramount, Gastropolis is an new typology and an example of adaptation in communal dining and social gastronomy.
