Coffee & Clay

Chiang Saen, Thailand

Coffee and Clay Café is an oasis in the landscape of Chiang Saen. Within the monolithic brick shell, the interior is conceived as a vertical sanctuary. Its double-height volume enhances openness while maintaining an intimate atmosphere. A visual connection between the ordering area and seating allows the space to feel both expansive and cohesive.

A warm, natural material palette of clay plaster, locally sourced timber, and jungle green ceramics reinforces the connection to the landscape. Soft cove lighting, accent fixtures, and paper lanterns create a layered interplay of light and shadow. Openings in the perforated brick façade filter ambient daylight, contributing to the café’s light and airy quality. From within, the interplay of height, materials, and filtered light defines the space as a tranquil oasis framed by the surrounding flower gardens.
